South Sulawesi prosecutors threw Palopo mayor Pateddungi Andi Tenriadjeng into Gunungsari corruption detention center in Makassar on Monday, after he was named a suspect of corruption and money laundering cases worth over Rp 49 billion (US$5 million).
“The detention is to make it easier for us both to complete the investigation and hand over his files to Makassar prosecutors office,” said the office’s assistant for special crime, Chaerul Amir on Monday
Tenriadjeng has been a suspect since January, accused of embezzling education funds for the period of 2010 and 2011 worth Rp 1.8 billion and Rp 5.3 billion respectively, as well as Rp 1 billion school operational assistance (BOS) funds in 2011 and the building permit funds worth Rp 1 billion.
An investigation by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre found suspicious transactions worth Rp 40 billion to Tenriadjeng’s friend, Peter Nackdi, in Jakarta.
