SAN ANGELO, Texas — A man wanted for international money laundering is being held in the Tom Green County Jail after he was arrested at an AA meeting Thursday night in San Angelo.
San Angelo police arrested James David Zebranek, 56, about 9 p.m. at a AA meeting off Avenue N, Police Chief Tim Vasquez said. A bond of $9.8 million was requested, but according to jail officials Zebranek has not been arraigned.
He was booked in as fugitive from justice. The charge came out of Pinellas County.
"Yesterday the police department received a phone call from Pinellas County Florida detectives advising us that they believed Zebranek was possibly here in San Angelo," police spokesman Lt. David Howard said.
Department criminal analysts did research and found a person with that name listed in San Angelo. Surveillance was conducted and Zebranek was arrested without incident, Howard said.
His charges also include larceny and perjury, Howard said. Police said Zebranek was a Florida medical doctor who had been in Panama since 2010.
It was unclear what brought him to San Angelo.
