WASHINGTON — A 21-year-old citizen of Kazakhstan who entered the U.S. on a student visa has pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting money laundering.
Federal officials in the Southern District of Texas announced the plea by Alexey Li on Friday. Li and three co-conspirators were charged in December.
Court documents allege that Li agreed to launder funds generated in sophisticated stock scheme that caused more than $400,000 in losses. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The case was investigated by the FBI.
